There is an expansile lytic lesion in left mandible, containing an ectopic tooth.
Discussion
Dentigerous cyst, formed by degeneration of the enamel organ of a tooth prior to its eruption, is located in the expected position of the tooth's crown. Dentigerous cyst is the most common cyst in the mandible. It has a well defined sclerotic margin and contains an ectopic tooth. There is an association with the Gorlin (basal cell nevus) syndrome. The cyst may enlarge during childhood resulting in radiographic lucency and thinning of the overlying cortex of the mandible or maxilla. Presentation may be with swelling, pain or secondary infection of cyst contents.
Final Diagnosis
Dentigerous cyst of mandible
